What is Hip Replacement?

Hip Replacement surgery involves the removal of damaged sections of the hip joint and replacing them with artificial implants like metal, ceramic, and plastic. This artificial joint helps to reduce pain and improve function. One can go through total hip replacement or partial hip replacement surgery.

Types of Hip Replacement Surgery

Total Hip Replacement Surgery- This involves the replacement of the total hip structure and is replaced with artificial implants.

Partial Hip Replacement Surgery- This surgery involves the removal of the femoral head.

Hip Resurfacing- This involves trimming the natural bone's damaged portion and then resurfacing it with a metal covering.

Why it's done?

Hip Resurfacing- This involves trimming the natural bone's damaged portion and then resurfacing it with a metal covering.

Rheumatoid arthritis- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), is a chronic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the joints. It occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues, particularly the synovium, the membrane that lines the joints.

Osteonecrosis- Osteoporosis, also known as avascular necrosis or aseptic necrosis, causes bone tissue to die due to lack of blood supply and this can lead to collapse of the damaged bone and subsequent joint damage. Osteoarthritis can occur in any bone but most commonly affects the hip, knee, shoulder, and hip joints.
